5 Ways Your Realtor Should Be Using QR Codes to Sell Your House

Examples of How to Use QR Codes in Real Estate

Whenever new technology comes along, everyone gets all hot and bothered about it.  While everyone is talking about it, few people are talking about how to use it.  For example, not many realtors are tech savvy or interested in sharing their QR Code marketing tips.  Today, we are going to let the cat out of the bag!

If you don’t know what a QR Code is, take some time to do a bit of research.  Basically, a QR Code transports a mobile device user to a designated website.

Before we begin to tell you how to use them, we’ll let offer up three very important bits of information about QR Codes.  First, there are several online companies who can make a QR Code for you.   Second, your QR Code must direct traffic to a webpage that has been optimized for mobile devices.  Third, each QR Code you create will direct traffic to a different webpage.  Consider who should receive what information.

Now, without further ado, five ways tach savvy realtors should be using QR Codes 

1.  Lawn Signs

We’ll start with the most obvious and possibly the most effective tip – put a QR Code on your lawn signs.  Most potential homebuyers want to gather as much information as possible before contacting a realtor – it probably has to do with their fear of overly pushy sales people.  So, give them what they want.  Put a QR Code on the sign that will lead to interior photos, the listing price, neighborhood perks, etc.  People like working with people they trust.  Providing them with an abundance of helpful information is a surefire way to enhance that relationship.

Some realtors might say, “By giving away all that information, potential homebuyers don’t need to call you.”  We’d say, “With all the information available on the internet, they probably don’t need to call us anyways.”  If you don’t give them the information they want, they’ll find someone else who will.

2.  Business Cards

Putting a QR Code on a business card can be either beneficial or downright stupid.  If you put a QR Code on the back of your business card that link to a page with the exact same information that can be found on the front of the card, what good does that do?  On the other hand, if you use a QR Code to drive traffic to your facebook page, your online listings, or a client testimonial, that could be a gold mine.

3.  Direct Mail & Video Marketing

These days, direct mailings aren’t as popular as they used to be.  However, we aren’t discounting their potential.  And for future reference, QR Codes can help you determine if that particular marketing strategy is effective at all.  Since scans are tracked, it is easy to determine ROI. The photo above is an example of a mailing I recently sent out for one of my South Tampa listings. If you scan the code it, will take you directly to the article on my blog here with all the pertinent property details.

Or if you prefer to produce a video you can send out a postcard out to local residence with a QR Code linking to a YouTube video.  Upload a video of yourself, talking about your business and what services you offer.  Start by saying something like, “One of the reasons why I love working in the Tampa area is the people…”  This will help build trust; someday  when that person gets ready to sell their home, they’ll remember you.  Go on to talk about how you use the latest technology and strategies to ensure a quick sale.  End the video with your contact information and links to your social media accounts.

4.  Property Flyers

Just like business cards, this is a make or break situation.  The potential homeowner is holding a piece of paper filled with photos.  Why link to the same photos they already have?  Instead, use this opportunity to link to a video featuring a virtual tour.

5.  Everything Else Under the Sun

You can put a QR Code on just about anything – so why not do it?  When it comes time to promote your business (as opposed to a particular listing), there are tons of ways to use QR Codes.  The next time you go to a trade show, business fair, parade, or community event, print a QR Code on your free giveaway item.

Add a QR Code to the back of your company’s t-shirts.  Make a bumper sticker for your car.  Put one on the closed sign in your business’s window.  Print one on the door under your hours of operation.  As you can see, there really is no limit to how you can use QR Codes!
